Theme & Variations - Flute and string quartet
An evening of vibrant, expressive chamber music celebrating three pioneering composers of the early 20th-century. The programme opens with beautifully contrasting pieces by Lili Boulanger, who despite her early death, is regarded as one of the most gifted and influential French composers of her generation. Germaine Tailleferre brings her own flair with a selection of charming flute pieces and a colourful piece for piano trio, reflecting her versatility within the French modernist movement. The concert concludes with the substantial and imaginative Theme and Variations for Flute and String Quartet op.80 by Amy Beach.
