Investing in the future of music in Dunedin
The orchestra moved into its new permanent home, Hanover Hall, in December 2016 (the former Hanover Street Baptist Church). Not only does Hanover Hall provide the orchestra with an acoustically safe and enlarged rehearsal space as well as office space, but the Hall is also available for hire at affordable rates by other performing arts organisations for workshops, rehearsals and performances (the audience capacity is c. 240). Thus the new venue also provides future opportunities for other associated forms of music.
The vision: to help achieve the orchestra’s and Dunedin’s goals
Our vision is to provide a home for an iconic performing arts organisation in a unique and historic Dunedin building, and through this to raise the profile of the arts through a visible and easily located central-city presence.
Access for performing artists to a bespoke venue contributes to enhancing the quality of their presentations. In this way, the orchestra is helping to increase the number of accessible high-quality performances, enhancing the social well-being of the community.
Donors to this project play a leading role in ensuring that musical and performing arts groups have a dedicated centre that will contribute to their long-term future and help them thrive.
